Should the HAL go German?

Postby Stuckey Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:51 pm

In today’s installment of our week-long examination of fan ownership, we turn to Germany. The Bundesliga is often held up as an ideal example of this and a model that English clubs should follow. But, as Terry Duffelen reports, while there is much to admire about the German model, it would be a mistake to see it as a panacea for all football’s problems.

You know when English football is in trouble when it looks to Germany for guidance. Certainly, there is much to be admired about the structure and rules that govern club ownership and management in Germany. However, like all management models, it is not perfect.

A British article from a while ago. But In England, Germany and Australia same issues still apply. Maybe HAL clubs need to start looking at the security of community ownership?
If it means clubs actually making profits, lower ticket prices, higher attendances and live games for free to air TV. Its a definate yes from me!!

We need more games in the season, FTA TV, relegation/promotion, a national all inclusive knock out Cup competition, and less off season, anything over 3 months is counter productive and ridiculous.

And we should welcome all Australian clubs that pass the business/money test.
And i mean all "Australian" clubs even the "New Australian" ones.

None are passing the business money test. This is why we need fan ownership!

Actually there are some who do, but at the moment that doesn't matter as they are dirty efniks from the sokkah days.

It always was the best model.

If the A-League is to expand I think that bringing in established existing clubs may be the way to go in some instances.

I agree!

And so what if they only draw in 4k crowd to a game if they have a suitable stadium for such numbers. IMO full suburban grounds are a good look for the game.

I guarantee you , these clubs will have all the talent as they will be on low budgets playing kids they have taught themselves, allow transfer fees between aleague clubs and i think these small clubs may just work!!

I'm not too sure how these small clubs will go suddenly having to spend thousands travelling interstate every second week?
I think to begin with I would like to see these clubs in a B-league for a season see whether its viable at all then consider openning up promotion. Once the A-league has around 16 sides go for relegation too!

16 Teams would be too many for Oz I reckon.
12 teams would be optimal but you can have a decent league with just 10 teams.
You just need to play every one home and away twice with a break of say 3-4 weeks at the half way point.
(Like they do in Austria for example.)

Relegation gets complicated with out a "B-League".

IMO for now relegation should mean having to slug it out in the early rounds of the ffa cup ( if it ever gets off the ground)
