They should play next game at the Gabba and open the gates for a community good time after the flood.
That's actually a really good idea. Great for the HAL too.

issue with this is the Gabba (was) is rock hard and also has a cricket pitch and has cricket games scheduled and i think it would be highly unlikely they would be moved

Somewhat surprised that Ballymore won't be used for these games. You would think that keeping the Brisbane team in Brisbane would be a better option - especially given the upheaval for the community over the past few weeks.

Sure, getting to Ballymore might be a challenge for locals, but it is surely a better option than traveling to Robina. Strikers used to play there too, no?

Apparently using Skilled Park instead of Ballymore was Foxtel's influence...

just a fact of modern football. Roar get a cash flow from Foxtel for matches and Fox has the set up in place to televise from Skilled Park, not Ballymore. sad news for local fans, totally agree, but without Foxtel's money, we wouldn't have the quality of league that we do have today.

just the way it is, the corporate side of football is a necessary evil.

Is there a reason why the Roar don't move to Ballymore?

I know they have a deal with Suncorp, but 11,000 people in a 25,000 seater sounds far better then in a 48,000 seater...

You are right Stuckey, though some people seem to have the opinion that playing in appropriately sized stadiums shows a lack of ambition or something. Even though the MLS have shown catagorically that playing in stadiums appropriate to your fan base increases attendance and therefore income and profit for clubs.

What I hear from locals up here is that Ballymore, whilst being a bit old and creaky produces a far better atmosphere than a half full Suncorp Stadium. Most people though have fairly bad memories of traffic gridlock around the area though as public transport is poor compared to Lang Park (although to be honest I haven't found Suncorp to be THAT convenient anyway).

You might find then that the crowds aren't necessarily any better at Ballymore as casual fans might be less inclined to go there.

Suncorp is also highly visible - everyone knows where it is, everyone would have been to Lang Park at some stage to watch the Broncos, State of Origin, Wallabies, concerts, Socceroos, etc.

I lived in Brisbane for 23 years of my young life and, not being a rugby head, I'm fucked if I know exactly where Ballymore is or how to get there.

Having said that, if I were a Roar fan I would much rather go watch my team play somewhere a bit more intimate, where stadium rentals aren't going to kill the club..
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Well that makes it a perfect venue for the hero games of the season, ie GCU and finals.
