Palmer's Christmas gift

Postby Stuckey Thu Dec 09, 2010 12:18 pm

Billionaire Clive Palmer has handed an early Christmas gift to Gold Coast United fans by opening the doors at Skilled Park for free for the match against Central Coast on December 19.

i dont think they will push 5,000 unfortunately...

there just seems to be no interest at all there. and whats the point of opening the gates for free if its not advertised and promoted.

Too little too late imo. It's all very well to open the gates to the public - but most people on the Gold Coast don't even know the team exists.

Agree they'll barely get 5,000.

Palmer's burned all his bridges even to those who would want to support a team.

I hear that a lot, but could someone please explain what exactly Palmer did? I know about the crowd cap, but that is a very justifiable stance, considering the crowd sizes they were getting, and the difference in cost between having a cap and not.

A lot of people criticise Palmer, but I don't understand why, he is losing millions per year on the team, and yet he has not walked away like other owners have.

I think the people of the Gold Coast need to take some responsibility for what has happened, they are the ones who have failed to show that they want a team.

...perhaps they don't?

They don't read their local paper? GCU actually get a fair bit of coverage in the Gold Cast Bulletin.

I'm sure they know they have a team, they just think that it's all too much effort to go to a game. Perhaps, they just don't like Football :?

let them in for free, but will the public know about it ? it needs to be in the paper, on tv, on radio.

Exactly! I don't really understand why people are so critical of someone spending their own money.

The reason for the crowd cap is because QLD government taxes major events so heavily (crowds over 5,000 people)

He actually said that the Gold Coast youth league games make GCU more money then the A-league games.

I really hope they get 10,000.

I really think these communities of these clubs really are the one's who have to prove they deserve an A-league team.
GCU need to turn up to games
NQF need to get together financially

That wasnt the freebie game.

The game will still be limited to 5,000 because Palmer is such a tight ass that he wont pay the transport levy that they tack on when they expect more than 5,000 people going.

rumours suggest that they have had 5500 inquiries for the free tickets, add on the usuall 1500-2000 and they are looking likely to get around 10k at least.
