Playing in front of over 60k every week in an atmosphere that would make bocas blush is nothing to sneeze at
I think that's around the capacity of their stadium! I believe they get around 40k a match (which puts anything in the A-League to shame) and Al-Ahli wouldn't be too far behind. Certainly Al-Ittihad are the biggest club in Saudi Arabia and one of the continental giants; most definitely nothing to sneeze at.

Some of the away games though are played in almost empty stadiums. Once you get past the big clubs(Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr) the crowds start making the Fury look impressive. Average crowds for some of these are less than 1k.

Its probably no different to many european leagues with the drop off in quality though

He would be playing for a team who has a higher standard then any aleague team and can expect to go deep into acl.

Melb. City sign 39 year old Danish keeper Thomas Sorenson. No doubt he's been a quality keeper and played in the EPL for a long time but Thando Velaphi had joint highest clean sheets last season and didnt play until December. Is this a waste of a Visa Spot?

No australian team should sign a visa keeper. Its one position we nail!

I agree. Half the HAL have more than one keeper that can cut it at HAL level.

MC are all about money and will try to buy the championship before attempting any other method. Much as I hate MV, they are a much more honest club.

On this particular move? It's shameful treatment of Velaphi who has earned his spot and would fit into any A-league squad. Putting him aside just so they can sell a few shirts is a disgrace.

Let's pretend there's a club in a particular league that was salary capped. And what if that club was owned by another entity (lets say they're owned by another football club based in another country).

Lets also pretend that this club in the non-specific salary capped league just signed a player previously based in the country where the club's parent entity (maybe its another football club, maybe its not) are based. How could the salary capped league ensure that no payments are being made by this other entity to a bank account belonging to this recently signed player which exists in the country where he/she/it previously lived and played.

How could something like this be regulated?

*any resemblance to a person living or dead and/or an organisation in this hypothetical is unintended and purely coincidental.

And completely unrelated to my last post, Sorenson is a really surprising signing. Not that I think its a bad idea to use a visa spot on a goalkeeper - but his salary demands must be pretty high. He's just come from a league where his salary could well have been higher than an entire Australian club's cap!

Any other club would struggle to afford him surely. It must be Melbourne City's rich history and full trophy cabinet that appealed to him.

Bozanic signed on at Victory. 3yr deal, takes Milligans marquee spot.

Apparently MV tried to get Troisi and Brattan first but they opted for overseas.

Bozanic is good but he's not as good as Milligan.

CCM have axed Liam Reddy.

This is proving a great move for Izzo to leave AU!

When does the Jan window open?

Besides Lee Ki Je leaving Newcastle and the 6 monthly Ronaldinho article, I haven't heard any rumours.

If not this window it'll be at the end of the season. He's way too good for the HAL.
