FFA Reclaim GCU License

Postby double07 Wed Feb 29, 2012 1:47 pm

Palmer:
Our licence is being rekoved by Frank Lowy and FFA cohorts .. I will issue detailed response shortly

We intend to fight this ludicrous decision by incompetent FFA in the courts. Frank Lowy is an institution who now belongs in an institution
Gonna get ugly. Palmer claims he's never lost a legal battle.

the full statement here
http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/new ... ason/45760
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced it had issued Gold Coast United FC Pty Ltd with a notice of termination following material breaches of the Club Participation Agreement that governs the conduct of all clubs in the Hyundai A-League.

The termination has been made following at least three clear breaches of the Agreement in recent days, namely:

1. A conscious and deliberate contravention of FFA Policies and Procedures.

2. Deliberate defiance of a direction that was given by FFA; and

3. Repeated public statements made by or on behalf of Gold Coast United that bring the A-League, FFA and the game of football into disrepute and are prejudicial to the interests of FFA, the A-League and the game of football in Australia.

Gold Coast United committed material breaches last Saturday night at Skilled Stadium when the playing strip and the stadium signage featured an unapproved slogan, in deliberative contravention of a direction from FFA.

FFA Chairman Frank Lowy AC today expressed his profound disappointment that FFA had been left with no alternative than to terminate the Gold Coast United’s licence.

"The material breach on Saturday night was followed by a statement from the club that it intended to continue using the slogan," said Mr Lowy.

“This behavior came on top of public comments that displayed a total lack of respect for football and the millions of Australians who love the game.

"Such disrespectful behavior, a flagrant disregard for the rules and a stated intent to continue breaking the rules made for an intolerable situation.

“As custodians of the game, we had to act to protect the integrity of the Hyundai A-League on behalf of the other nine clubs, players, coaches and most importantly, the fans.”

During the past four weeks Gold Coast United has on several occasions expressed to FFA its strong intention to leave the competition but during the same period issued contradictory statements that it intends to remain in the competition while at the same time continuing to breach FFA policies.

FFA has exhausted attempts with the owner of Gold Coast United to facilitate an orderly process under which the club could complete its remaining fixtures in the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League season and comply with its obligations under the Club Participation Agreement.

Mr Lowy made repeated attempts this morning to talk directly with Mr Palmer to appeal to him to allow a smooth completion of the season and a dignified exit from the game for Mr Palmer. These calls went unanswered.

FFA’s priority now is to explore all options to field a Gold Coast team for the remaining four matches of its season. This would avoid any impact on the standing of the remaining nine clubs and be the fairest outcome for the competition, clubs, players and fans.

Mr Lowy appealed to the football community, including owners of the other nine clubs, to use whatever influence possible to encourage Mr Palmer to allow a smooth and fair outcome to the season.

“FFA will exhaust every practical option to have Gold Coast finish the season,” he said.

FFA CEO Ben Buckley said all practical steps to enable a Gold Coast team to complete the season would be explored, including:

• Talking directly with Gold Coast players to encourage them to enter into arrangements with FFA to play the final four games of the season.

• FFA to pay the players for appearing in these games.

• Possible postponement of Sunday’s scheduled match between Gold Coast and Wellington Phoenix.

“If we need extra time to put in place the necessary arrangements then we will consider postponing the match,” he said.

A-League General Manager Lyall Gorman is already on the Gold Coast to talk with players and make arrangements for the season to continue unimpeded.

“The players are just one of the many innocent victims in all this and FFA will do its best to enable them to see out their playing season on the pitch.

“They deserve that opportunity at the very least,” Mr Buckley said.

Thank god,

Imo clive only got into the game for his ego, he wanted it to be all about him, think about it how many other owners seek the spotlight?

I think he really enjoyed these past couple of weeks and id also question if he realises exactly what a football club means to most fans. He thinks this is a game...his play thing. But there would be fans who sacrificed their own money week in week out and some who travel . He just does not understand.

When he pulled that freedom of speach stunt, honestly i was appalled. He used the fact he had 2 eritean refugessas a scape goat... Imagine what these guys feel for clive now that their situation has been taken advantage of all for clive little game.

Hopefully ffa can steer the club through this season and they can entice a new owner or consortium , because it has been proven that the fans are there .

Lets be honest , if clive was the one who set up au, i dont think we would have stuck around too long either

Haha yes thats all I was thinking!

Michael Thwaite and Ben Halloran are definately two I would go for, also Cooper and Golgol Mebrahtu are quality.

Very sad I really hope the FFA takes care of these kids and don't leave them out in the cold. This is their decsion so they need to ensure its followed through.

I'm no Palmer sympathiser, but I'm pretty happy that someone is challenging the operations and transparency of the FFA.

Being optimistic about it, we could come out of this with a better run league and sport as a whole, and minus a team with no support.

It's gonna be rocky for sure, but I really think the game will come out of this in a healthier state than it is right now.

I agree but the FFA don't appear to be budging on this. The fact that they have just dicarded a sure unpopular but entirely self sufficient club proves that.

Is anyone watching this press conference??

Palmer has started a new organisation called "football australia" with the slogan "we kick harder" .

Organisation is aimed at being an ffa watch dog and keeping them honest, with the intent of eventually replacing the FFA.

Archie fraser is CEO.

Archie fraser and clive palmer ...hmm is it really about the game or is it about them holding grudges.

Palmer is sitting in this presser talking about fans and womens rights etc ....he showed none of that when he owned goldie!!

Seriously this guy does not care he is only proving a point and it looks like he is enjoying this.

The sad thing is clive has an endless money stream ffa do not.... This may not end well .

Wow palmer , mensik and fraser have all contradicted each other in this presser it seems they all have different ideas about what football australia is about.

Now palmer is flat out lying about the "freedom of speech" shirt... Saying it was all about refugees.

This organisation would be a great thing...if it was not formed by a bitter billionaire seeking attention.

Thats the thing. He has friends and I still believe he is right about this. Archie Fraiser is no mug proFFA people can and will come out and bag him out saying that he's jealous or what ever but he quit the FFA due to how terrible it was being run.
When he first came out against the FFA AU, Newcastle and Perth all agreed with what he was fighting for, but probably not how he went about it.

One thing I have enjoyed is watch on twitter which reporters take which side of the fence. There are some on there a few from 4-4-2 mag the are very unashamedly proFFA. Read there comments made me realise how much influence FFA have in some areas.
Personally I really hope this give the FFA a serious shake. They must at some point wonder why its so hard to get new owners to come on board for clubs and new ventures like West Syd, (I'm not saying its easy) from a business point of view owning an A-league club looks about as attractive as going to bed with Michael Moore.
