Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
Clubs need to urge FIFA to take control and arrange for A-League to be professionally managed by an independent board.
Why it’s a must
1 Better TV rights deal with funds put back into the clubs.
2 Better Referring
3 Sort out the VAR
4 Expand the league
5 Extend the season
6 Get rid of finals it should be a premiership. Finals left for FFA Cup
Can’t believe they are talking about increasing to 12 teams but reducing number of games in regular season to 22. Geez that’s going to attract talent NOT.
The time of linesmen and VR referee not SEEING 3 players offside in a grand final because they are one eye Victory supporters should be OVER

Time was about 7 years ago. Let's hope expansion results in a 33 game season as opposed to 22.

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
The FFA have noted (not final) that expansion to a 12 team competition would allow simplification of home and away round to being just that one home and one away round against each opponent thus making for a reduced 22 round comp
This at a time the league needs expansion, growth etc it will only do the reverse
Their unprofessional management, finance, running and refereeing of the league is a SHAM it really is a PART TIME UNPROFESSIONAL LEAGUE that will NOT ATTRACT EVEN HALF DECENT OVERSEAS PLAYERS. Also any local/youth talent if any good will be on the first plane overseas.

VAR - really stands for VICTORY ASSISTANT REFEREE
VAR malfunction - equipment failure caused by ONE EYED VICTORY SUPPORTER JUMPING UP AND DOWN SO HARD CELEBRATING THE GOAL that the video machine fell of the desk and broke resulting in it skipping the offside - Self Induced Software Malfunction

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
I understand the point about simplifying the home and away rounds but 22 games is surely not enough income to even pay the bills.
There are other ways around this, take a look at the scottish premier league set up where the league gets split into 2 divisions after christmas. Surely this is a better option than reducing games ( not that im a fan of it personally )

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
Completely disagree.
FFA ARE the independent board. They're the only thing stopping the league from splintering into self interest and club's doing deals with each other to manipulate things to their own advantage.
Do we really want to let the 2 Sydney and 2 Melbourne clubs plus one other able to vote so that they get a bigger slice of the pie than anyone else? Get rid of the salary cap so no one else can compete because they have more money?
Hope FIFA back the FFA all the way with their gradual change policy, allowing more representation, but maintaining control.

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
I don't think there has been anyone suggesting that the 10 clubs are the only ones with a vote.
Currently I think there is less than 10 voting members so theoretically there could be biased voting already.
I think the idea is to give the clubs, the FFA board, the players association, the state federations all representation in the voting.
I know you are pro FFA however there is a reason why FIFA are intervening. Their voting practices and chairman elections are not in line with the rest of the world and do not represent football in this country as fairly as it should.

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
It seems to me that FFA are looking to broaden the representation slightly right now (maybe more in future), whereas the clubs want enough votes in this restructure to control the process from here on.
You're right FIFA are intervening because we don't run like the rest of the world at the moment. But do we really want a situation like the EPL? Where the top 6 clubs (top few in Australia) rake in most of the money and dominate the league, while the rest are just fighting to try and stay out of the bottom 3 (avoid the wooden spoon or scrape into the finals in Australia).

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
I think people are having 2 different conversions in this thread.
In regard to the FFA congress here is a basic round up , though things have probably progressed from the time of the article.
http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-0 ... an/8689444
In regard to the a-league being run independabtly which was the the op was about..
Its an indictment on the FFA that after over a decade the league is still not being run independently!
To me its kinda comparable to saying a nations government should have absolute final say over the courts, law enforcement, media and military. Each to their own I suppose but there are just far to many conflicts of interest to make it palatable to most people who have some kind of financial or emotional investment in the nations top league.

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
If the alternative were say, having the NSW and Victorian government control the court system, law enforcement, media and military in South Australia then I'd be happy to have the national government do so.
In fact the federal government DO control media ownership laws, create the future vision for the military and implement it through the Defence Minister, and have the highest court of appeal in the land than can overrule state courts.

Re: Time is NOW for A-League to be run by independent board
The sooner FFA is replaced by independent board the better. These people are ruining the game and have no idea of how to move football forward in this country look at the problems the Socceroos are having. We will be lucky to qualify for the next World Cup.
Thank god for Torres ignoring the A-League. FFA was trying to persuade him and assist Sydney FC with $2 million to help pay for marquee player. FFA why not
$2 million for Mariners Marquee
$2 million for Perth Marquee or
$2 million for Adelaide or Brisbane Marquee
why are Sydney and Melbourne given special privilege.
Not a good way to create fan interest and excitement unless your a Sydney FC or Melbourne Victory supporter.
This board of biased football unprofessional's NEED TO GO.
NEEDED IS AN INDEPENDENT ADMINISTRATION THAT IS SERIOUS ABOUT
1) EXPANDING THE LEAGUE IN BOTH SIZE, REVENUE AND QUALITY
2) EQUAL SALARY CAP CONTROL OF ALL CLUBS
3) INCLUDING COACHING/SUPPORT/FACILITIES AS PART OF SALARY CAP
4) RESTRICTING NUMBER OF FOREIGNERS TO 5 (BUT 3 PER GAME)
5) HAVING MINIMUM 3 YOUTH PLAYERS PER GAME
Whats the point of a league played by soon to be retiree's etc.
