Att: Web developers & designers - Help wanted

Hi all,

The forums are currently running on an older stream of PHPBB. While it's all up to date with the latest security fixes it would be great if we could move to the latest and greatest stream of the software.

There a few new features that might be of use to us but the main thing is to get on the latest stream so that we won't run into a situation that the developers no longer support the software and we can't upgrade.

I've run the upgrade in a test environment and it's a pretty seamless process except for the fact that the theme (look and feel and styles) we currently use on the site is not supported.

This is where you potentially come in. My plans are to either:
1. Migrate the old theme to support the new PHPBB
2. Take another off the shelf theme with an appropriate licence and make minor modifications to make it unique for us - e.g. reinstate the twitter feed widget which is completely custom to our site

So I'm looking for people that can help with the following skills:
1. Web design experience to help with logos and potentially screen mockups
2.HTML, CSS and PHP knowledge to help implement

This site makes no revenue, we have no ads and no subscriptions so we don't have any money to pay anyone. If you enjoy doing these sorts of things and want to contribute then that's great. Not asking for any long term commitment, just to do what you can do. Otherwise I'll do it all by myself, it just will take longer as with full time work and a young family my time is limited :)

The only thing I could potentially offer is if there are any undergrads out there interested. I'm an experienced software developer and we will be using many of the tools commonly used out there in industry. Could be good for your CV and if you can contribute meaningfully (I can mentor in areas you need to learn), I'd happily be a reference for you when you get out in the workforce.

Let me know in this thread or via PM!

Given that I didn't understand the first sentence I believe I will be of little assistance

Haha all good. I wasn't expecting there to be a huge demand here (it's hard enough myself to find time to dedicate to this on top of other commitments) but if there was people willing to help out I wasn't going to say no :)

Perhaps I'll get a few volunteers later when it's ready to be tested :)

This. The current theme was ok a few years ago but things have changed, it's not wide enough for modern desktop/laptops and is not responsive for tablet/mobile. IMHO we should look at customising an existing responsive theme. Just add some red and bung a logo on it :D

I'm a bit in the same boat as you (full time work, business, young family) but I can try to help out where possible i.e. bounce ideas off, throw some work my way etc.

Cheers.

Seriously we could just buy this $16 theme, make it red, add a logo, add twitter feed, done.

Thanks double07! It might be good that I set up a temporary subforum where people can be "my steering committee" (not that I want to turn this into my work!) and give me feedback or help if they like.
