2016 FFA Cup

Postby Stuckey Thu May 12, 2016 12:26 pm

A change to the draw principles for the Westfield FFA Cup 2016 will make the Round of 32 even more unpredictable for the 10 Hyundai A-League clubs, Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced today.

So all HAL clubs now are a chance to face HAL opposition.
Where as before the top 4 clubs assured NPL opposition.
So yet again AU will probably have to face a HAL side.
Out of the 8 FFA Cup games the club has had they've faced an NPL side only once.

I don't really get why the draw needs to be so complicated. A random draw would just make so much more sense.

The fact that an NPL club is guaranteed to make the semis makes it a bit of a mickey mouse cup.

Im all for the david vs goliath battles, but when one of the finalists are able to waltz into the grandfinal having just won 5 nil with their B team due to playing an NPL club . It just loses its pristige.

Imo it should be an open draw from the quarter finals. There is still ample chances for an npl club to create an upset but the cream is still able to rise to the top.
Ppl who slap the label of truth on the 1st thing they hear, do it out of ignorance, convenience or cant be bothered picking through a thin layer of falsehood to find the real truth, or possibly even another lie

Seems a bit of a joke but the competition is not taken that seriously by a lot of A-league teams anyway. It is too much a pre-season competition.

Which clubs aren't taking it seriously? Considering how short the HAL season is I'd say clubs would welcome the opportunity for more games. Cirio was quoted last season as saying AU we're looking forward to more serious games.
I also like that the R32 games are so early so it offers the NPL clubs more of a chance as they should be as fit as they can be, while HAL clubs are a fortnight into their pre-season.

Do you really think WSW took it seriously when they lost to Adelaide City?

Guarantee you we'll get HAL opposition... and probably Victory away.

Its funny how MV and SFC are out of the top four and suddenly the rules change.
Rule changes popping up just when it helps those two seems to occur way too often for it to be a coincidence.

Well, let's face it, the nightmare scenario of Adelaide and Perth dominating the league with Wellington bringing up 3rd is a real possibility for 16/17. They need to do something to reduce the odds of a non-East Coast whitewash.

FBK has not changed, touched on the shoulder and his legs buckled earning a penalty for the tards.

Nice to see Strikers giving City a run for their money. Sad they couldn't take their chances.
