Adelaide misses out on Asian Cup
So Australia is awarded the 2015 Asian Cup, as we knew Adelaide wasn't included in the bid.
As a South Australian I'm very disappointed the our Government has shown little understanding of the significance of this tournament on the world stage and due to our sub-standard stadia we are considered a backwater again.
Vote 1 Rob Gerard!

Key points
“Australians are about to see just how big this tournament is with an expected television audience of more than one billion watching sixteen quality teams compete from some of the biggest nations in Asia including Japan, Korea, India and China.
andLowy said he wanted to thank the Federal Government as well as the governments of Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Victoria for supporting the bid.
It is estimated the 32 matches will attract between 438,000 and 510,000 spectators with the Socceroos expected to play at least one group game in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
FFA has proposed Melbourne to host the opening match and Sydney to host the final. It is expected to bring in up to 45,000 visitors, create up to 1000 jobs and boost GDP by $23million.
Crap that puts the A-league on the backburner again!FFA CEO Ben Buckley said the hosting of the Asian Cup will be a key focus over the next four years along with other key strategic areas of FFA’s operations.

Val was saying that there is a chance we may actually see games at hindmarsh.
Obviously we wont have socceroos matches but id be happy to see a japan game here.
To be absolutely blunt though, even canberra gets socceroos games, Adelaide gets SFA!!! Even though this state time and again proves its self with A-league attendances, and we dont need a gimmick or even a title winning team to show up!

Re: Adelaide misses out on Asian Cup
I think this and the lack of Socceroo matches in Adelaide probably speaks more of our Government and their relationship with the FFA. I can imagine Ranndy expecting all the glory for apparently coming up with the idea of Australia hosting the WC and playing it at Adelaide Oval when the FFA opposed it to begin with and wanted a decent stadium he probably told then to hit the road, so they did!

Re: Adelaide misses out on Asian Cup
That is true, but if we cant even be spared an A-league socceroos match versus Indo or kuwait then thats just not right at all,
Im quite sure there would be somewhat of a flow on effect from a national team game down to an AU game
both FFA and Rann are punks

4 years is a long time things may change!
Why give Gold Coast games if they don't have a A-league team then?
But on that logic why did Canberra get them?

Re: Adelaide misses out on Asian Cup
i think the canberra game was an experiment to gauge interest for a potential A-league franchise, from memory they attracted over 20000 people for an A-league socceroos match, clearly had the best application and money upfront, yet the west sydney bid won ....gotta love it

Re: Adelaide misses out on Asian Cup
It's about infrastructure and location. We don't have a suitable stadium, but Gold Coast and Canberra do. And seriously if you were visiting Australia for a tournament, would you prefer to visit Gold Coast or Adelaide?
They will get adequate crowds regardless of the attendances at A-League matches.
And well Canberra is a shithole lets be honest, but it's less than 300km from Sydney making it a pretty convenient spot...
It's disappointing, but it's the way it goes.

Well... Brisbane is certainly closer to Sydney than Adelaide is... but my point is not that Adelaide is too far from Sydney - if we had a decent stadium then I have no doubt we would have been been included in the bid.Adelaide is closer to Melbourne and Sydney the Brisbane is. Absolutely as fantastic as Hindmarsh is, It is once again holding us back.
But it makes you think how many people are really going to go to say India v Bahrain? Hindmarsh would probably be perfect for that!

Re: Adelaide misses out on Asian Cup
Yes. Surely it is due to inadequate infrastructure and I agree with the decision to miss out.
Our leaders need to realise that they need to do something about this situation and I fully support us missing out if we don't have the infrastructure to put on a good show. It needs to be world class, simple as that, the East Coast, including Canberra, have the requisite rectangular stadiums and we do not. It's that simple.
It is not an FFA conspiracy, it is a symptom of a poorly lead and visionless leadership in this state, that only acts to maintain a backwater status quo.

And again like the world cup we properly wouldn't even get a big screen in the cbd to watch these Socceroos matches.
