Even if Australia get knocked out in the group stage the tournament has captured the imagination. Full stadiums all over the country. England-China tomorrow night will be huge at Hindmarsh (would have sold out Adelaide Oval easily, imo).

It's just a shame Matildas under Gustavsson are so average.

It would leave a much longer lasting impact on the national sporting psyche though if the Matildas go deep. Bigger than the men in the Asian cup tbh.

Massive missed opportunity if they don't win tonight.

If the Matildas lose, surely Gustavsson gets sacked.

Without a doubt.

For me, this is the biggest game ever.

Win it and the future will be round.
Lose and the trolls will feed off the body for a generation.

Come on Australia!

How good was it to see the girls step up and win so convincingly ?

Just have to hope that the Lionesses do the job tonight to top their group and not leave me with a decision to make in the round of 16 :?

You got your wish Marty!
England were brilliant last night (esp James). I feel for China given how good their supporters are at Hindmarsh but they went into that game with completely the wrong approach and deserved to be on the wrong end of a hiding.
Also ... VAR is a fucking scourge at every level and needs to get in the sea.

Great game (if you're an England fan), but what's with the 3,000 empty seats ???
Judging by how many people I've heard say "I tried but couldn't get tickets", and the fact that the sold out sign was put up, I smell a very pungent FIFA rat here. Tickets for sponsors/big wigs/celebs who couldn't be bothered turning up made us look like a football back water, which we definitely are not.

FIFA fuckwits :bang:

The Resale system absolutely sucks. For example: if you buy two adult tickets and take three kids, then the kids can't make the game and you and the other adult still attend, you can resell the kids tickets solely. However, there is literally no value in purchasing the kids tickets because you can only attend when accompanied by an adult.

This Matilda thing is really starting to gain some momentum now. With every win a few more people at my work start talking about the games. It's gonna be huge by the final if they make it all the way. Something akin to the 2006 World Cup for the men.

Big game on Saturday.
If we get past France we're all in against Colombia.
(Or England.)
