Wine is one of the things I love and just live for. That can be attributed to the number of bottles I left Adelaide with, the number of bottles I left the Hunter Valley with, oh and the Southern Highlands too. And there's always the usual dessert wines among them. Including a bottle from Loupiac, in Bordeaux.
Adelaide has the great fortune of having within an hour or two's reach regions producing some of the best wines on the world. A truly blessed situation. But you can say the same for Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. I could spend all day in wine country.

Re: Wine
Perth has the Swan Valley and Margaret River regions nearby. The amount of wine isn't huge but the quality is right up there.

Re: Wine
All 6 states of Australia do fine wine as a matter of fact.
I suspect Australia will move towards a European-style appellation system if not already, where you can only put a region's name on the label if it's made from grapes in the said region. In France and much of Europe, where you grow the grapes and how you make the wine determines what you can or cannot put in the wine label.

Re: Wine
I think we probably will too. Having just been to France/Bordeaux it seems to work well for them. They take their food and wine VERY seriously but it pays dividends when you go out for just a cheap average meal and the food is of high quality even the cheap house table wine is amazing. Did not have any bad food or wine in France - full stop.I suspect Australia will move towards a European-style appellation system
Though something about the rating system seems "Un-Australian" so maybe that won't take off here. But would hopefully stop people from growing inappropriate varieties in certain regions and the shit wine that follows.
Re: Wine
loaded up with some Hunter Valley wine the other week on our trip through, pretty easy wine region to visit with it being fairly smalll and having so many cellar doors close to each other.
Will be heading back one day with more money and spend a few more days there.
