In the last month or so:
- Peter Taylor is replaced at Bradford City by Peter Jackson.
- Danny Wilson replaced at Swindon Town by Paul Hart.
- Gary Johnson takes over from Ian Sampson at Northampton.
- Nicky Forster replaces Andy Scott at Brentford.
But to the first one. Just how does Peter Taylor keep getting work in football? He did coach the England U-21s once and was in charge of the full England side for one game as caretaker. But he was also the man responsible for undoing Martin O'Neill's good work at Leicester and signing Ade Akinbiyi aka Panicbuyi, ruining the Foxes for years to come.
Peter Jackson returns to Bradford, for whom he had two spells playing. He was also captain on the day of the Bradford Fire. And his record as manager? When he took over at Huddersfield (whom he also played for previously), they were in serious trouble at the bottom of Division One as it was then called. He managed to get them to safety and the next season they became play-off contenders before finishing mid-table. Still, the decision to replace him with Steve Bruce was questionable at best- as it were, Huddersfield looked a real contender for promotion and choked spectacularly. Relegation in 2001 was a blow they've not recovered from. But when Jackson returned in 2003, they were in the basement division, and under him they bounced back and became play-off contenders.
So back at Bradford City, Jackson would face a formidable task if he stays for any period of time. They are one of the bigger clubs in the division, and tasted Premiership life over a decade ago. The result of their excesses is the reason they slid down to the bottom tier, and expectations of going up (their crowds are predictably among the biggest in League Two) must be a burden for some. Or is it?
