Re: AFC U-23 Championship
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/ ... -23-openerThe Olyroos dominated possession at the Grand Hamad Stadium in Doha, but they couldn't make their 59 per cent count in a match which offered few chances.
Same old story it sounds like.

Not a great start. No doubt the baying for blood will begin from uninformed fans who have little comprehension as to the capacity of youth sides in the region.
Places like UAE have always had good youth development systems, it falls apart for them as their players grow older and are unable to take their development outside of the UAE.

True, its just so disappointing to read that once again we had so much of the ball but failed to create much in the way of significant chances. It's such a constant theme in the youth national teams. Not a great start. A decent result against Vietnam with a 2-0 win. UAE and Jordan played out a draw which means we need 3 points against Jordan to progress.

I'm surprised Taggart hasn't seen any game time yet. Hopefully he comes in next game as attack is the only way we'll progress.

Re: AFC U-23 Championship
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/ ... -stalemateAurelio Vidmar's side needed nothing short of a win in their final group game to ensure progression from the AFC U-23 Championships in Doha on Thursday morning (AEDT).
However, in a hard-fought contest, the Olyroos were unable to claim all three points despite coming close at the death through Jamie Maclaren’s clever lob.
The Olyroos dominated possession but struggled to create enough threatening goal-scoring opportunities and seriously test Jordan goalkeeper Noureddin Ateyah in a reflection of their poor attacking form throughout the competition.
4 year later and Viddie still can't provide a side that can create chances effectively.
I think it's time for him to move on sadly.

The games all feel like Groundhog Day. I agree that it is time for a new set of hands on the u-23 set-up.4 year later and Viddie still can't provide a side that can create chances effectively.

Not sure if Viddie will ever be back here but there's every chance he'll get another A-league gig and be successful.

Korea and Japan in the final. That's the level we need to be at.
