Selection Headaches

Postby Spiro Wed Dec 08, 2010 3:40 pm

Friday's game is going to be a crucial one. NQF have always proved a stern test for us. with last weeks dramatic loss, who would you drop and promote to the starting 11 and to teh squad in general?

For me:

pantelis for ramsey
mullen for barbs 9who is very unlucky to get dropped)
Keenan for watson

Thoughts?

Dont agree with Ramsey. Thinks if a fit Pants is available, then he should be in

You are never going to convinve King_Billy that Pants deserves a first XI spot ;) Mostly I agree with him, but Ramsay needs to learn when to come inside and when to stay outside prior to him being able to be completely better in everyaspect than Pants.

Pants offers more defensively, Ramsay offers more going forward. The games is against the Fury at Hindmarsh, if it was an away match I would agree.

Having said that, if we contain David Williams they are unlikely to score so perhaps Pants should play

i don't think Ramsay is level headed enough to start just yet, so if Pants is fit, i'd rather he starts. sub him around the 70th minute, and release Rambo to do wat he does best.

also agree with Mullen over Barbs, but i'm happy seeing Barbs in the squad so it's hard to call. it's just i always figured Mullen would releave Barbs once he was fully fit. Barbs has done a tremendous job imo, but the fella is best when attacking, he is not a defensive player.

Fully agree that Barbs is an attacking player, he can lose his cool tracking defensively whereas Mullen seems to keep very calm. The only good thing about Barbs being on the pitch is Fyfe and Cornthwaite swapping sides giving us better coverage in many ways.

for me itd be

---------SVD--------
Pants--Flores--Dodd
----Hughes--Reid----
Cassio Fyfe Cflakes Keenan
--------Eugene-------

I'd probably be inclined to sub Mullen in for Keenan during the 2nd half as well as Ramsey for Pants maybe at the 75+ minute mark for some forward movement (assuming we aren't losing at that stage)

I would have agreed with Mullen coming in for Barbiero, but now I'm not so sure.

Barbiero has improved as a defender every single game he's played there.
And as a handsome man at Hindmarsh pointed out, Barbiero's attacking game is really suited to coming at the play from a bit deeper.

If he can combine his attacking ability with his newly developing skills at RB then Mullen might not be starting anytime soon.

Actually I have noticed Barbiero getting better each game. I think it'd be good maybe to have him starting instead of Mullen but bringing in Mullen once we are ahead for a more solid defense. Same reason I don't want ramsay on unless we're ahead, as far as defense goes he's pretty much hopeless.

Id keep Barbs at RB, he could develop well there, i still believe Mullen is a full CB, nothing else.
