Wtf?
The spiritual home of football on Australian television, SBS, is in advanced plans to cut ties with the sport as part of a dramatic programming overhaul.

While the decision has not been finalised, Fairfax Media understand the network's content division recently concluded that SBS's 35-year relationship with football – among Australian television's most iconic – should be scaled back dramatically.

Bad news if SBS looses interest in Australian football.

Terrible news. Guess the SBS funding cuts are hitting football first :(

However, weren't there reports recently of commercial channels making a play come next broadcast deal anyway?

probably explains why the ABC won the asian cup rights for FTA.

whats most worrying is the 2018 & 22 World Cups...they have to live on FTA... and it would be horrible if one of 7,9 or 10 got their hands on it again.

:( just when things were looking up.

Where ever it ends up the broadcaster would surely offer foz and co a job.

I cant help but cringe at the thought of eddie McGuire or denis commetti breaking down a game for the viewers at half time talking about the finer points of the game

That would never happen.

Sounds like a good plot for a horror movie tho.

They have been for a while. 9 has NRL and 7 has Aussie Rules, in particular AFL. I'd prefer 10 to get football over 7 or 9 by far, as they've simply slagged football off the least.

But that said the Coalition's right wing agenda is visibly clashing with SBS' on the left.

If the rumours are true its sad for football and SBS but IMO the game has moved on and I no longer live in fear that if 7,9 or 10 got their hands on football coverage they would bugger it up too much. There would be too much money going into the game for any of those channels to justify doing a C7 and sweeping it under the rug again.
Plus the FFA are far to switched on to that to fall for something like that.
I it will be interesting to see how CH9 cover the ICC and the Liverpool games this winter.
But I would guess that Ch9 would be the last channel to want the HAL as they have their cricket coverage all summer long.

Good. I haven't forgiven them for refusing to show Adelaide vs Al Ahly

They did end up showing it on SBS2 but not every one had an STB at that stage so can understand the frustration.
